What is blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery?
Blepharoplasty is the most effective way to combat the signs of aging that appear on people’s eyelids. Over time and due to various factors, it’s normal for these areas to become sagging and for the youthful appearance of the face to fade.
This surgical procedure aims to reduce the amount of fat and skin present in the eyelids, while simultaneously lifting them. This results in an attractive and refreshed appearance, helping our patients regain their self-esteem and personal confidence.
Blepharoplasty has different classifications depending on the area it addresses. While lower eyelid surgery deals with under-eye bags, upper eyelid surgery aims to prevent them from affecting our appearance and field of vision.

Is blepharoplasty right for me?
To undergo eyelid surgery, you will need to be in relatively good health and not have any significant pre-existing conditions in the eye area. All of this will be determined by the surgeon in charge of your case through various tests and a thorough review of your medical history.
The typical candidate for blepharoplasty is over 30 years old, as this is when the skin begins to sag more rapidly. However, eyelid surgery is more popular among people over 50, when these skin changes become more noticeable.

To calculate the price of blepharoplasty, each case must be studied individually. After all, not everyone has the same conditions and characteristics, not to mention that each patient has their own expectations regarding the procedure
At our cosmetic surgery clinic in Malaga, we will be able to offer you a detailed quote for this procedure after the first consultation. This quote will include the surgeon’s fees, anesthesia, hospitalization costs, and all subsequent follow-up care.
These quotes can vary significantly from one surgery center to another. This is largely due to the training and experience of the surgeons performing the blepharoplasty, who will be responsible for the patient’s safety and satisfaction
Our aesthetic clinic features Dr. Yagües, specialists in plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery. These two highly regarded professionals in the world of plastic surgery are able to inspire all the confidence you need for this procedure.
Eyelid surgery is relatively simple. It lasts approximately 1 to 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The most common blepharoplasty involves incisions in the natural creases of the eyelid, through which excess skin and fat are removed.
Another technique used to achieve satisfactory results is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. This surgery is performed through the conjunctiva, inside the patient’s lower eyelid. Its main purpose is the removal of fatty tissue and does not require skin excision.
The method used to perform the blepharoplasty will depend on each patient’s needs and what the surgeon determines is most appropriate. For this reason, an essential part of the process is the prior consultations you have with your medical team.
Recovery from blepharoplasty is characterized by being relatively quick and not presenting a major inconvenience. In most cases, a period of between 10 and 15 days will suffice for the patient to resume their normal daily activities, including their work responsibilities.
However, this does not mean that any type of activity can be done. Sports and activities of high physical demand will be ruled out for a minimum period of 2 months, by which time we will have ensured that the healing has progressed well.

One of the great hopes of people is to find a way to reduce the volume of their eyelids without the need for surgery. However, to effectively combat excess fat and skin in the area, it will be necessary to surgically remove these elements and manually reposition the tissues
If the elasticity of the area is not too severe, a non-surgical solution may be possible. Filler injections can soften fine lines and rejuvenate the appearance of the face by a few years. But none of these facial treatments will be as effective as eyelid surgery.
Regarding blepharoplasty, the biggest difference lies not in the method used to make the incisions. The most crucial factor in terms of safety and quality of results is the surgeon’s skill and ability to accurately execute the required techniques.
The use of a scalpel or laser will depend on the preferences of each surgeon when performing this type of surgical procedure. At our center, we can attest that Dr. Yagües has the necessary training and experience to achieve quality results in any situation.
The risk level of blepharoplasty is relatively low. The possibility of suffering any unwanted side effects is practically nil if the operation is performed by a qualified professional with experience in eyelid surgery.
Regarding the surgery itself, it is possible that more skin may be removed than necessary, and that there may be subsequent difficulty closing the eyelids. It can also lead to increased dryness of the eyes, although this is also very unlikely.
On the other hand, there are some complications inherent to the operating room. The improper use of anesthesia, difficulty in healing, and the appearance of infections are risks present in blepharoplasty and in any other plastic surgery
Once the blepharoplasty procedure in Malaga is finished, the patient must remain under observation by the medical team for 24 hours. This means that it will be necessary to spend one night in the clinic before returning home.
During the post-operative period, it will be necessary to apply an ophthalmic ointment to the wounds to accelerate their healing and prevent infection. It is very likely that during the first few days, your eyes will feel swollen and you will experience localized pain in the treated area.
These symptoms will be treated promptly with the medications prescribed by the surgeon in charge of your case. The maximum swelling will be reached around 36 hours and will begin to decrease over the following days.
The stitches will be removed at the appointment on the fifth day, and you will then be able to gradually resume your daily activities. The most important thing during this period will be to rigorously follow all the recommendations of the medical staff.
