What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is the cosmetic surgery responsible for reducing the size of the labia majora and minora. In most cases, this surgical procedure focuses on reducing the labia minora, primarily so that they do not protrude and remain hidden between the labia majora.

Although this topic is not widely discussed, the size of the labia can sometimes cause discomfort during various activities such as physical exercise, sexual intercourse, and even when exposed through clothing.

At Clínica Doctora Yagües, we will provide you with personalized attention and all the comforts you need. We have a team of excellent plastic surgeons, led by Dr. Yagües, who represents a true guarantee of quality and safety for our patients.

Is labiaplasty right for me?

It’s clear that labiaplasty is a very personal decision that each woman must consider deeply. Many of our patients begin to consider this surgery during puberty and adolescence, mainly due to the significant discomfort this situation causes in their daily activities.

In principle, labiaplasty doesn’t present any major requirements, and you only need to be in relatively stable health. Of course, all of this will be verified by the medical staff in charge to ensure there are no risks for patients during the surgery.

You are an ideal candidate for this operation if you consider your labia unattractive or if they prevent you from feeling as comfortable as you would like in your life.

Whether it’s due to problems performing sports activities, pain during sexual intercourse, or everyday chafing, labiaplasty is the best alternative to end these problems.

How much does labiaplasty cost?

Establishing a general price for labiaplasty is virtually impossible. Ultimately, the complexity of the procedures greatly influences the cost estimate, and to determine the specifics of the intervention beforehand, at least one interview with the patient is necessary.

At our plastic surgery clinic, we will provide you with a detailed estimate as soon as our surgeons have a clear understanding of your needs and expectations. The cost of this intimate surgery will include items such as the surgeon’s fees, anesthesia, and all post-operative consultations and check-ups.

What are the risks of labiaplasty?

In principle, labiaplasty is considered a low-risk surgery that shouldn’t cause any problems. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are certain side effects that need to be taken into consideration.

Very rarely, changes in the pigmentation of the labia may occur. It’s also possible that the sensitivity of the area may be slightly affected or that the size of the labia may not be entirely symmetrical.

In most cases, this can be avoided simply by choosing a surgeon who is an expert in labiaplasty and has all the necessary credentials to achieve the results the patient expects.

Will the results be the same using the wedge method compared to the cutting method?

When performing labiaplasty surgery, the surgeon will have two techniques at their disposal. The wedge method and the cutting method are two types of procedures that allow the desired results to be achieved, and their main difference lies in the way the labia are approached during surgery.

As its name suggests, the cutting method is characterized by making an incision along the entire length of the labia. The wedge method, on the other hand, has a more limited area of action, and the resulting scar is also smaller.

In the first case, we can expect much smoother results, while the wedge method offers a rougher texture. The choice of procedure will be based on the surgeon’s assessment of each patient’s characteristics.

Are there non-surgical alternatives to labiaplasty?

Currently, there is some technology that can reduce the size of the labia without the need for surgery. These techniques are based on the use of ultrasound and can have quite satisfactory results.

However, despite their high effectiveness, no method is as satisfactory as labiaplasty. These alternatives offer minimal reduction and are unable to address the asymmetry problems that many women experience.

That’s why, if you want definitive results, our aesthetic clinic recommends that you undergo labiaplasty and achieve changes that meet your expectations.

What other procedures can be combined with intimate surgery?

Labiaplasty is just one of the many options available to rejuvenate and improve the appearance of the vagina. This is why many women also request other body and vaginal surgeries, which provide significant comfort in various aspects of their lives.

Vaginoplasty, for example, is a surgical procedure that aims to tighten the vaginal walls. This has a number of benefits for women, including improved satisfaction with their sexual relationships and control over urinary incontinence.

On the other hand, we have clitoral hood reduction, which is often a close companion to labiaplasty. Ultimately, this operation has a similar goal and seeks to eliminate excess skin on the outside of the vagina.

It is important to keep in mind that as the number of surgeries performed increases, the recovery time will also increase. However, the results obtained always have high satisfaction rates among our patients.

Does insurance cover intimate surgery?

One of the most frequently asked questions among our patients is related to the appropriate way to finance this procedure. From our experience, we have found that most insurance policies do not cover the costs of labiaplasty, although it will always be necessary to consult directly with your insurance company.

What is the recovery like after labiaplasty?

Recovery from labiaplasty is a relatively quick process and should not present any major problems for our patients. Once discharged, you can continue care at home, resting for a couple of days to avoid discomfort in the treated area.

In most cases, you will observe slight swelling of the labia, which may increase if certain precautions are not taken. Generally, it will be enough to wear loose clothing and follow the medical staff’s instructions precisely.

During the first 48 hours, it is normal to feel burning in the vagina, and the aforementioned swelling will last for about a week. After about 15 days, the patient will be able to resume her normal activities, including sexual relations.

Should I wait to have labiaplasty until after I have finished having children?

As with most cosmetic surgeries, pregnancy will not be problematic after a patient undergoes labiaplasty. However, it is important to consider a few things before deciding on this type of operation.

As we all know, pregnancy is a time of many physical changes for women. This includes not only the changes in a person’s figure, but also the significant stretching of the vagina during childbirth.

This last element requires special attention. While there are no problems with pregnancy after labiaplasty, it’s important to know that the results could be lost after childbirth.

What is the postoperative period like after labiaplasty?

Once the labiaplasty is completed in Malaga, the patient will not require hospitalization and can return home the same day. It is important to maintain special care during the first few days after labiaplasty, especially regarding any possible friction and hygiene of the treated area.

In the event of pain, the intimate surgery specialist in charge of the case will prescribe medication to help alleviate the symptoms. Absolute rest is recommended for at least two days, and you should wait a couple of weeks before resuming normal daily activities.

Regarding sexual relations, it is best to wait up to a month after the operation and be careful during intercourse. The area will be considered fully healed only after a couple of months, a time that may vary depending on each patient’s characteristics.
