What is a facelift?

A facelift is a cosmetic surgery that lifts the skin and tissues of the face. Through these actions, it is possible to achieve a much more youthful and attractive appearance, allowing people to improve their self-esteem and self-perception.

Over time, it is inevitable that the skin begins to sag and that the appearance of the face ages. Thanks to the facelifts offered by this operation, we can combat these symptoms and look a few years younger

The techniques used in a facelift can be applied to the face, chin, and neck. This means that the results can offer a significant change in a person’s attractiveness, especially considering the importance of the face in assessing beauty.

At Clínica Estética Málaga, we will strive to make your surgery a quick and safe process, and ensure that the results are satisfactory for you.

Is a facelift right for me?

To undergo a facelift, you must meet certain requirements. The most important is not having any serious health problems, being relatively healthy, and not being a regular smoker. If you do not meet this last condition, you must abstain from smoking in the weeks leading up to surgery and throughout the recovery process. At our center, we do not perform facelifts on patients who smoke unless they quit before surgery

By meeting these requirements, the procedure will be viable for any patient who is dissatisfied with the appearance of their face. Most people come to our clinic dissatisfied with feeling excess skin in certain areas, which in turn produces a greater number of wrinkles.

If we add to this the high elasticity that tissues achieve, the appearance of the face can be significantly affected. As a candidate for the procedure, it is important that, while you experience these symptoms, you are also willing to care for your skin after the intervention and accelerate your facial recovery.

How much does a facelift cost?

At our aesthetic clinic specializing in facelifts, we know that each case is different and that each person has their own concerns regarding their appearance. For this reason, we only provide a facelift quote after the first consultation, when our surgeons have a clear understanding of the desired results and the techniques that will be necessary

This detailed estimate will include hospitalization expenses, doctor’s fees, anesthesia, and all postoperative follow-up by our medical team. This ensures we provide you with a comfortable service that inspires the confidence you need

It’s important to understand that these prices will vary between different plastic surgery clinics. This is largely due to the prestige of each center and the experience and training of its surgeons.

In our case, we have the unparalleled expertise of Dr. Yagües, who, thanks to her impeccable career, has become a true leader in the world of cosmetic surgery.

What should I expect during a facelift?

A facelift is a surgical procedure that lasts an average of 3 to 5 hours. It is performed under general anesthesia and uses different techniques depending on each patient’s goals.

In particular, there are three different types of operation. Regardless of whether it is the face, neck, or chin, the procedure will be based on the same basic principles.

To tighten and lift the facial tissues and muscles, it is necessary to make small incisions in hidden areas of the face. These are usually made in the natural creases of the face and neck, as well as at the hairline.

Through these incisions, the face and neck are tightened and reshaped. Once the skin has been repositioned, the corresponding sutures are placed and the wounds are closed. Thanks to their location, the scars are barely visible. If the patient heals well, they are hardly noticeable.

What are the potential risks and side effects of a facelift?

The procedure followed during a facelift has some associated risks that are worth knowing about. It is important to note that these risks are very rare, so this information should not dissuade you from the decisions you have made regarding having this surgery.

In some cases, bruising may appear, as well as a feeling of numbness in some areas of the face. Of course, there are always the risks related to wound healing, where some problems may arise that hinder recovery or cause infections.

Another side effect of a facelift is the possibility of hair loss in the incision areas. Weakness in the facial muscles may also be noticeable, a situation that is usually temporary and gradually disappears over the following weeks.

How long does recovery take after a facelift?

After the facelift surgery, you will feel slight pain in your face, as well as a general feeling of swelling. These symptoms will disappear after about two weeks. During this time, it is recommended to rest and avoid returning to your daily activities. Generally, two weeks of recovery will be necessary, and the patient will be able to return to work and normal life.

The patient’s face will remain convalescing for several more weeks and even up to the second month. During this period, it is important not to perform strenuous physical activity, much less activities that involve water exercises

After two months, you will be able to resume all normal activities and will be fully discharged. During this time, it is recommended to strictly follow the medical staff’s recommendations to avoid complications.

How long does numbness last after a facelift?

A symptom noticed by many patients who undergo a facelift is slight numbness in the face. This occurs mainly in front of and behind the ears, and its cause lies in the technique used during the procedure.

This occurs especially when the tissues of the neck and face are being tightened, as some sensory nerves are cut in the process. According to facelift specialists, this sensation can sometimes last for a period of up to 4 months.

While in most cases this discomfort disappears before this time, there are also patients in whom it lasts longer.

What is the difference between a facelift, a mini-facelift, and a mid-face lift?

Although all facelift surgeries have a similar goal, different classifications have been incorporated. In the case of a mini facelift, we are referring to a surgery that focuses primarily on the cheeks and chin, areas of vital importance to a person’s attractiveness.

A mid-facelift aims to improve the aesthetics of the eyes, nose, and mouth. Like the mini facelift, it uses similar techniques and its main objective is to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin in these areas.

When we talk about a full facelift, we are referring to a more comprehensive procedure, in which the different areas of the face are addressed homogeneously. This type of plastic surgery offers comprehensive results and guarantees complete patient satisfaction.

What is the post-operative period like after a facelift?

A facelift in Malaga will require the patient to stay for one or two nights in our clinic to ensure that the first steps of their recovery go well. Once this time has passed, the medical team will discharge the patient, and they can return home without any problems

Absolute rest will be necessary for the first few days, in addition to wearing a bandage to help preserve the results. This will be removed by the surgeon at the first postoperative appointment, which will take place during the first week

It’s important to sleep with your head elevated for the two weeks following surgery to promote circulation. You’ll also need to avoid bending over and strenuous physical activity, as well as exposure to high temperatures.

How long do facelift results last?

The results of a facelift do not have a fixed duration. In most of our patients, we see variable periods, which are adjusted to each person’s age and genetic makeup.

It is most common for the effects of a facelift to last for about a decade. During this period, it will be necessary to take certain precautions and care to prevent rapid deterioration of your skin.

It is important to note that although this procedure can make you look several years younger, it does not mean that it slows down the skin’s aging process. By this, we mean that the deterioration and loss of elasticity of the tissues will continue to develop, and you must take care if you wish to preserve the results.
