Breast Surgery
What are tuberous breasts?
When we talk about tuberous breasts, we are referring to a malformation in the female breast area that affects the structure of the breasts. Specifically, it is due to a disorder in the developmental phase, where the breast grows in an elongated shape and lacks adequate volume.
In short, we are dealing with insufficient development of the lower part of the breast, caused in turn by an increase in the density of the breast tissue that prevents normal breast growth. This can even cause sagging and herniation of the areola, sometimes accompanied by an unusually large diameter
All of this can have serious consequences for our patients’ self-esteem and confidence, fostering the development of insecurities that diminish their quality of life. Tuberous breast surgery is highly necessary, especially because it provides a quick and safe solution to this problem.

How do we know if it is tuberous breasts?
There are a number of characteristics that a surgeon specializing in tuberous breasts will be able to easily recognize and provide an appropriate diagnosis. Some of the main signs that reveal this condition are:
- The lack of a spherical or rounded shape of the breasts
- The presence of a tubular or elongated shape of the breasts
- An unusually large diameter of the areola
- Asymmetry between the two breasts
- A narrow or underdeveloped breast base
- A noticeable and large separation between the two breasts
- Lack of skin in the lower area of the breasts
In the presence of these factors, the plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgeon in charge of your case will be able to accurately determine not only the presence of tuberous breasts, but also the degree of deformity your breasts possess.
To determine an accurate estimate that meets each patient’s needs, it will be necessary to have at least one consultation with your surgeon. This is because the difficulty of the tuberous breast surgery and the materials used will vary depending on the complexity of the case.
At our cosmetic surgery clinic in Malaga, we will include all the details of the procedure costs, including the cost of hospitalization, medical fees, the work of the anesthesiologists, follow-up appointments, and any element considered necessary to optimize the achievement of the expected results.
These costs can vary greatly between different cosmetic surgery clinics, mainly due to the expertise of their surgeons. In our case, we have Dr. Yagües, who has extensive training and an impeccable track record.

The most commonly used surgical technique to correct tuberous breasts is the Puckett procedure. The primary goal of this procedure is to reduce the diameter of the areola by performing glandular remodeling inside the breasts
This internal action also helps to release the areas where constriction occurs, allowing the mammary gland and tissues to distribute more naturally. At this time, it will be necessary to perform a suture around the areolas due to their high elasticity.
It is important to note that tuberous breasts will disappear immediately, and that you will then have to wait for the area to return to normal. This means that the local swelling will decrease and the tissues will fully adapt to the new internal structure.
Of course, if the surgery is complemented with breast implants, the time needed to appreciate the final results will be even longer. This period can last for about 3 months or more, by which time the implant will have settled properly inside the breasts.

After undergoing tuberous breast surgery in Malaga, our patients will need to stay at our facilities overnight. During this time, their progress will be closely monitored, and the medical team will ensure that everything is going well
The following day, you will be able to return home with a rest regimen to avoid any risk to the healing of the wounds. During the first few days, you may feel some discomfort, similar to muscle soreness after an intense exercise session.
The patient will be able to return to work from the third or fourth day, provided that it does not require great physical exertion. For this type of work and for participating in sports activities, it will be necessary to wait a month.
It is important that during these first few weeks you carefully follow all the instructions of the medical staff, so that the recovery of the tuberous breasts progresses as quickly as possible.
Tuberous breast surgery is recognized for its low risk rates. However, this does not mean that the operation is completely free of possible drawbacks, so it is worth being aware of its main side effects. Of course, these are no different from those of any other surgical procedure
The risk of adverse effects from the anesthesia is minimal, especially if you go to a cosmetic clinic that has the necessary accreditations to provide this type of service. The same is true for the risk of postoperative bleeding, since the blood will drain promptly during the first few hours of recovery
Another important factor to consider is scarring. Depending on your skin type and how well you care for your wounds, the surgical marks will be visible to varying degrees. In most cases, they are barely noticeable and do not diminish our patients’ satisfaction in any way.
Regarding the breast prosthesis that could be used to complement the surgery, it is possible that it could cause capsular contracture. However, thanks to the high quality of our implants, this risk is practically nonexistent.
The breast implants we use in our breast surgery procedures represent a valuable opportunity for our patients. Polytech Diagon Double Gel® is a type of prosthesis characterized by its high quality and virtually lifetime durability.
The choice of the type of breast implant you wish to have will always be your decision. However, we believe that the product chosen by our surgeons stands out greatly from the other alternatives offered on the market.
These breast prostheses are characterized by their anatomical structure, providing greater naturalness both to the touch and to the eye. On the other hand, they have a high fixation rate, which significantly reduces the risk of developing capsular contracture.
